A1 - Quantum- and Nano-Engineering of Light and Matter

Over the past ten years, QuantumFrontiers researchers have played a key role in continuously improving the squeezing of light and the realization of long-term applications of squeezed light. As a world first, we operate the gravitational wave detector GEO600 with a laser system that generates squeezed light and have recently demonstrated 15 dB vacuum squeezing, which is the strongest non-classical noise reduction to date. The potential of squeezed light enhancement has also been demonstrated in spectroscopic experiments and laser-based microparticle tracking of living cells. entangled quantum states have been successfully used for metrology and enable universally secure quantum encryption. However, all quantum metrological experiments and applications benefiting from squeezed or entangled light states are influenced by decoherence effects. The challenge to reach the full potential of squeezed light is the efficient generation of quantum correlations in a desired frequency band and their subsequent implementation in a given application with high accuracy.
